Go the Brumbies!

I don't know that we ever really planned on being a football family ( the round ball kind, or any kind for that matter).  We are not avid followers of any of the popular sports here in Australia, and I don't think we really thought Will would be that into it.

But five winters ago (!!) the call went out to all the Kindergarten kids - lets get a team together.  And so we went along with the others and the Brumbies were  born.  While other teams in the grade have come and gone or merged with other teams, the little unit that is the Brumbies has stood strong.  Five winters of cold afternoon training sessions and early morning Saturday games.

With the exception of one, all of the kids go to school with Will, but most of them are not his good school buddies.  And that's ok.  I think it does a kid like Will the world of good to get out of their comfort zone and learn to get along with people other than their close friends.  To be honest, much like me.

And so, with the help of the seemingly unending patience and perseverance of "Coach" and other helpers, we find ourselves almost at the end of another season with the Brumbies.  Who would have thought you could learn so much from a game of football - life isn't all about winning, it's about giving it your best shot, playing fair, and getting up, dusting yourself off and trying again when you need to.

Go Green, Go the Brumbies!

I'll always have New York (Part 2)

In hindsight, we didn't pick the best time of day to visit the Highline.  With all the lovely open space and room to sit and take in the surrounds, it would have been lovely to be there in the late afternoon twilight, eating some take away from Chelsea Market and just people watch.

In any case we were there on a steamy summer morning, which probably didn't lend itself to too much sitting around, we were just too hot up there ( this coming from someone used to hot Australian summers - it was hot!).  Regardless I enjoyed walking along the converted rail track, enjoying the view of the surrounding streets and trying to avoid looking into people's windows!!

After the Highline we headed to Chelsea Market and Anthropologie!! I didn't go to New York to shop (shocking I know), however I do think the angels sang when we walked through the doors. It was the one shop I was determined to visit while in New York.  So while the others were going ga ga over handbags and pretty shirts I was doing backflips over the homeware displays.  Did I purchase anything? Why yes I did.  I came home all the way from New York with a set of dishcloths from Anthropologie.  And I love them.  I have the prettiest dishcloths now in Newcastle.

I'll always have New York ( Part 1)

Eighteen months ago a friend turned 40.  Her gift a trip to New York. "Come with me" she said.  It seemed impossible to me at the time.  Six months later, it was my turn.  I celebrated with a beautiful 2 week cruise around the South Pacific with husband and children.  And then my birthday became the "gift that keeps on giving" and I was organising a 16 day trip of a lifetime to New York with 3 friends.

I am blessed beyond compare to have a husband who gladly sent me on my way.  No guilt trips, no conditions.  Just - "go".  Who continued to work and so beautifully take care of the two little souls I left behind.  Thank you.

And so, twelve months later I found myself on a 22 hour flight from Sydney, Australia to New York, New York!!

Oh New York.  Central Park, The High Line, tacos, the subway, LES, outdoor cinema in Bryant Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, tacos, Williamsburg, the Brooklyn Flea, the Met, tacos, mojitos, breakfast burritos, the Museum of Natural History, Broadway, Times Square, Grand Central Terminal, tacos, 9/11 Memorial, yellow taxis, Fifth Ave, Shake Shack, stand up comedy, pizza, Bleeker St, Chelsea Market.  The list could go on and on.  I simply don't have the words to describe the sheer awesomeness of it all.  So I will let my photos do the talking.

One note on my photos.  I was missing my inspiration.  It quickly became apparent to me that I missed my husband and children far more than I thought I would ( duh!).  And I came to realise that they are the people that give my photography its spark.  I sometimes felt very lost without that spark.  And so I think my photos are lacking that certain something.  I searched for it long and hard, but to be honest, I don't think I ever really found it.

These photos were taken on the first 3 days.  We went to Central Park on day 3, but my camera ran out of battery and the spare was back in the hotel.  Who lets that happen?
